Proverbs 6: 16 – 19<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

There are six things that the Lord hates,<\/span>
    seven that are an abomination to him:<\/span>
haughty eyes, a lying tongue,<\/span>
    and hands that shed innocent blood,<\/span>
a heart that devises wicked plans,<\/span>
    feet that hurry to run to evil,<\/span>
 a lying witness who testifies falsely,<\/span>
    and one who sows discord in a family.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reflection<\/span><\/strong>
We may be tempted to think that this passage only applies to criminals.  However, it sounds like an average day on social media to me.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMy opinion matters the most.\u201d <\/span>
\u201cI\u2019m going to share this article without fact checking it or checking the source.\u201d <\/span>
\u201cPeople may die from misinformation shared, but that is not my problem.\u201d <\/span>
\u201cI\u2019m going to really upset this person with my version of facts.\u201d <\/span>
\u201cI\u2019m going to be quick to respond, because they need to know how wrong they are.\u201d <\/span>
\u201cTruth is irrelevant anyway.\u201d 
\u201cWe are already divided.\u201d <\/span>
\"shrug<\/p>\n

Not just for criminals, these words serve as a warning to you and me too.  Typed words can lead to as many deaths as a weapon.  Don\u2019t believe me?  In a recent White House Press Conference (July 2021), people were warned about misinformation on the internet being initiated by just a handful of people and then subsequently \u201cshared\u201d many times – leading to thousands not taking up the vaccine in the States and to many more hospitalisations and deaths.<\/span>
So those articles and memes we share matter.  
 <\/span>
What if\u2026<\/span>
–<\/span>          we humbled ourselves and considered what others think or have to say?
–<\/span>          we fact checked things and carefully read articles before \u201cliking\u201d or         sharing?
–<\/span>          we work to help stop the spread of false information(and gossip)?
–<\/span>          we had conversations, rather than fought to \u201cwin\u201d an argument?
–<\/span>          we waited 24 hours before responding to something?
–<\/span>          we celebrated truth?
–<\/span>          we acknowledged our divisions and sought to build bridges?
–<\/span>          we applied this not just to social media but to church, family and community?
 
Prayer<\/span><\/strong>
God, we seek your wisdom.  In this quiet space, speak to us your truth.  Guide our interactions with others.  May they be grace-filled conversations that celebrate truth.  In Jesus\u2019 name we pray.  Amen.<\/span> <\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
