The United Reformed Church offers the following prayer for personal and public use as we reflect on and pray for all caught up in the escalating violence in the Middle East.<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

Eternal One,<\/strong>
\nwe remember before You\u00a0<\/strong>
\nthe people of Iran, Israel, Abu Dhabi, Oman, and Bahrain\u00a0<\/strong>
\nand those sailing through the Strait of Hormuz:<\/strong>
\nall places of pain and division where the nations rage furiously together,<\/strong>
\nwhere drones and missiles fly overhead, children cry in bunkers,\u00a0<\/strong>
\nand the bodies of the dead await funerals.<\/strong>
\nWe remember the Earth, herself,\u00a0<\/strong>
\nlonging for redemption from humanity\u2019s cruelty,<\/strong>
\nwhere every drone and missile wreak havoc and fear<\/strong>
\neven as they further despoil the earth\u00a0<\/strong>
\nand add to the climate change which brings yet more death and destruction.<\/strong>
\nWe grieve a world where there is neither peace nor justice,<\/strong>
\nwhere divisions are made into weapons<\/strong>
\nand where ideology is used to maim.\u00a0<\/strong>
\nWe bitterly regret the failure of diplomacy,<\/strong>
\nand wonder if it was designed to fail.\u00a0<\/strong>
\n\u00a0<\/strong>
\nGuide now, Prince of Peace,\u00a0<\/strong>
\nthose who dare to work for peace,\u00a0<\/strong>
\nthose tending the injured,<\/strong>
\nthose seeking to change our world,<\/strong>
\nthose working for democracy and human rights,<\/strong>
\nand those who advise our political leaders;<\/strong>
\nthat Your wisdom may shine through,<\/strong>
\nYour compassion be a watchword,<\/strong>
\nthat consequences of our actions may be acknowledged,<\/strong>
\nand the cries of the children may ring in their ears.<\/strong>
\n\u00a0<\/strong>
\nMost Holy Spirit,<\/strong>
\nbreathe Your peace to our troubled world,<\/strong>
\ncomfort the parents of the girls killed at the primary school in Minab,<\/strong>
\nthe relatives of those killed in Beit Shemesh,<\/strong>
\nand all who mourn in these days filled with war.<\/strong>
\nInspire Iranians longing for a free and fair society,\u00a0<\/strong>
\nand those who must now lead and guide its future.<\/strong>
\nInspire, too, Israelis working for peace and justice,<\/strong>
\nlonging for security and the chance\u00a0 to finally turn<\/strong>
\nswords into ploughshares and spears into pruning hooks.\u00a0<\/strong>
\n\u00a0<\/strong>
\nEternal Trinity of Love,<\/strong>
\nSource, Guide, and Goal,<\/strong>
\nhelp us to work for peace even in a world at war. Amen<\/strong><\/p>\n
