We are delighted to announce our next Trinity Colloquium:
Ethical investment in an overheating world
8pm on Thursday 29 September 2016 at Trinity United Reformed Church, Mansel Road, Wimbledon, London SW19 4AA
All are warmly invited to a panel discussion with James Featherby (left), chair of the Church of England’s advisory committee on ethical investment, Juliet Phillips (centre), Campaigns Manager (climate change) for ShareAction the campaign group for responsible investment, promoting and Nick Robins (right), co-director of the United Nations’ Environment Programme into a sustainable global financial system.
The threat of climate change is a strategic reality for society — but also for the financial system. Bank of England Governor Mark Carney has warned of the risk of ‘unburnable carbon’ and stated that ‘green finance can no longer be a niche’. Campaigners are calling on investors to divest from fossil fuel holdings, while demand for green investments, such as ‘green bonds’ is rising rapidly.
What does this all mean for our savings, our pension funds as well as the investments of local councils and churches? This public meeting will explore the latest experience of how leading investors are taking action on climate change — and seek to identify practical steps that individuals can take to align their portfolios with a secure and just world so that we deliver truly ethical investment.
Hosted at Trinity URC in Wimbledon on the evening of 29 September, it will conclude the Church’s feast of Creationtide, and will bring together leading practitioners to share
their perspectives, take questions and explore options for progress.
Doors open from 7.30pm; the panel event will begin at 8pm, followed by Q&A. The evening will finish by 9.30pm. Entrance is free, though there will be a collection for the expenses of the evening. To assist with planning, please do contact Trinity to let us know you’re coming!
