A prayer for those awaiting exam results

Over the next three weeks we have various exam results being released across the UK.

The results for Nationals, Highers and Advanced Highers – as well as the more vocational National Progression Awards, Skills for Work Awards, and National Certificates in Scotland – are released by the Scottish Qualifications Agency on 4 August.   In England, Wales, and the Crown Dependencies A, AS, and T Levels are released on 13 August whilst GCSE and various vocational qualifications are released on 20 August.

These days are approached with trepidation and produce both profound joy and disappointment.  We keep all our young, and not so young, in our prayers during this season of results.

The URC offers this prayer, for private and public use, as results are received, understood, digested and as future plans are made.

O God of every good gift,
calm anxious minds,
help all who are longing for,
and all who are dreading,
the coming results:
that they may find peace
and an ability to trust in you for all that follows.
In Your loving kindness help all those waiting
to find resilience where there is disappointment,
and joy when dreams have been fulfilled.
We thank You for teachers, lecturers, and for students’ hard work.
As next steps are discerned,
remind us all that our worth is not found in certificates
but in Your great love for us. Amen.
