We much regret that Sean Mayes, our Director of Music, left Trinity on Sunday 26 July to return to Canada at the conclusion of his studies in the UK. Sean has made a tremendous impression on Trinity and has been a great success in the role since arriving last October.
The search for a successor to Sean has been underway for some time, and applications for the position of Director of Music are welcome.
Director of Music advertisement
Trinity United Reformed Church, Wimbledon seeks a proficient musician with knowledge and appreciation of traditional and contemporary repertoire, to serve as Director of Music and Organist, leading and developing its choir.
The post is part-time, with weekly hours varying across the year, but mostly on Sunday mornings. The successful appointee will be inspiring, encouraging and enthusiastic about coordinating music involving a breadth of instruments, abilities and styles, and have either proven experience or clear potential.
It is planned that our existing pipe organ will be re-developed, providing opportunity for leadership in that project. We also have a Yamaha concert grand piano.
Remuneration negotiable but in line with RSCM Category A scale. The post is subject to Enhanced DBS check.
A full role description and related information about the post may be obtained from Alexander McLeish, Trustee (music@trinitywimbledon.org) to whom applications should be sent.

Although many of the local roads will be closed to the north of Worple Road during the day, access up to the station from the Broadway should be unaffected, and we will have free parking available in the car park in St George’s Road. Last year we found that there was no difficulty accessing the church from this area. Pedestrian access from all directions is easy and there will be identifiable crossing points on the major roads (Wimbledon Hill Road and Worple Road).
We will be again be hosting the control hub for Merton during the day, with representatives of RideLondon, Merton Council and the Police present in the Mansel Road Centre.
Leaflets giving full information about free parking, public transport, pedestrian and vehicle access on that day are now available at the church. Please take a copy.
With so much fruit growing around Wimbledon, it’s a shame to see it wasted. Abundance Wimbledon collects surplus fruit and makes sure it gets used to make jam, juice, puddings etc. Some goes to local charities, providing for the homeless and elderly, e.g. Merton & Morden Guild, the Faith in Action Drop-In Centre and Merton Vision.
So if there is more fruit in your garden than you are likely to need, then please get in touch. You can borrow a fruit picking pole to reach the top of your tree or ask if a fruit picking team can come and help you pick.
Last year, Abundance Wimbledon gathered more than 1600 kilos of fruit and we thank everyone who so kindly contributed. To donate your fruit this year, help with jam making or anything else, please contact abundancewimbledon@gmail.com or tel. Joyce 8946 3750/Juliet 8946 2514. See our website www.abundancewimbledon.com
Finally, don’t forget to come to ABUNDANCE FRUIT DAY on Saturday 19 September, 11am – 2pm at St Mark’s Church garden (behind Wimbledon Library). Come buy homemade jam, chutneys, cakes, ultra-fresh juice from the fruit press, enjoy the music and games. Entry is FREE. So please put it in your diary!
