The Revd D Ceri Lewis memorial window
In Spring 2015 an appeal was launched to commemorate the ministry of Ceri and Sue Lewis at Trinity over very many years. It was agreed by Church Meeting that the collection would be used to replace the glass in the rose window between the Old Hall and Mansel Road Centre, and to make a feature of this with a new bright and colourful glass design.
A glass designer, Sarah Galloway of Sarah Galloway Associates based in Lancashire was asked to provide designs for the window. She visited Trinity to discuss what we had in mind, and then submitted designs for our approval. Church Meeting approved one design, blue glass with the triquetra symbol of the Trinity in the centre. The window is manufactured with hand sprayed coloured resin, with the central triquetra (Trinity symbol) design sandblasted onto the glass.
The long process of approval by URC Southern Synod and Merton Council then began. Since Trinity buildings are grade II listed, planning consent for the project was required. The glass was eventually installed after Christmas, and the project finally completed after Easter with the installation of fire resistant glass on the Mansel Road Centre side.
We are planning to install some additional lighting which will show the glass to best advantage from the Old Hall. The window will be dedicated on Sunday 11 June (Trinity Sunday).
